Agriculture and Livelihood
Agriculture and Livelihood is another area of Action Hope Malawi's focus. The organisation trains farmers especially women farmers to be food secure. We apply new irrigation technologies to make farming easier
Improving Access to Youth-friendly Services
With funding from HIVOS, Action Hope Malawi is implementing a project titled Improving Access to Youth-Friendly Services among youth and female sex workers in the Salima and Nkhatabay districts.
The project is centered on improving access to youth-friendly health services among key populations and building capacities of youth groups without any form of discrimination and barriers
HIV/AIDS Prevention
Thanks to the generous support from the Aids Fondet, Action Hope Malawi is continuing to advance its mission through the "HIV/AIDS Prevention, Resilience, and Well-being Among Female Sex Workers Project." Throughout 2022-2025, this initiative aims to empower female sex workers with essential training in HIV prevention, medication adherence, and bolstering their economic resilience. Through these efforts, we are committed to fostering a healthier and more resilient community while supporting the well-being of female sex workers.
Primary Justice
Despite the absence of current funding, Action Hope Malawi remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities through the Primary Justice Program. This initiative facilitates access to justice through mediation and referrals to key stakeholders such as the Malawi Police Service, the Judiciary, and Social Welfare agencies. Despite financial challenges, the project continues to significantly impact communities. Cases mediated or referred encompass a wide range of issues including marriage disputes, land disputes, child maintenance, and breach of contracts, among others
Good Governance
Good Governance program, Action Hope Malawi remains dedicated to holding the government accountable to the needs of the people. Specifically, the organization actively monitors the Thyolo-Makhanga-Muona road to ensure compliance with required standards. With financial support from AICC, this project also engages with road users to assess the road's impact on their daily lives and whether it meets their expectations. Through these efforts, Action Hope Malawi strives to foster transparency and ensure that infrastructure development aligns with the needs and expectations of the community.
Disaster Relief
During the aftermath of Cyclone Freddy, Action Hope Malawi remained steadfast in its commitment to aiding vulnerable communities in times of crisis. Specifically, in the Zomba district, our organization provided essential support including food supplies, clothing, bedding, and plastic sheets to alleviate the hardships faced by the affected individuals. These efforts were aimed at enhancing their well-being during the disaster. Presently, Action Hope Malawi persists in its pursuit of sustainable solutions as part of the ongoing recovery phase.
Women Economic Empowerment
In response to the issue of underage sex work in the Machinga district, primarily stemming from caregivers' economic vulnerabilities, Action Hope Malawi, in collaboration with the Kirk Foundation, is executing a transformative project. This initiative aims to rescue underage girls from sex work while concurrently empowering their caregivers economically. The objective is to enable caregivers to adequately support their underage girls, improving their livelihood and facilitating their return to education. Thus far, caregivers have undergone training in various vocational skills such as baking, carpet making, briquette production, and salon services. These skills not only enhance their financial independence but also contribute to breaking the cycle of underage sex work in the community.
